The gameplay and visual style of Sonic Mania is similar to the first parts of the series for Mega Drive/Genesis. In the story of sonic the hedgehog, Fox Tails and echidna Knuckles found on the island of the angel a powerful source of energy — a ruby of Illusions, which allows you to control time and space, but Dr. Eggman, along with his robots Hard heated Heavies got to him first to use the stone in order to capture the world. The heroes are going to prevent the evil plans of the villains. The player will have to pass various levels, among which there are both the old zone of the first part of the series, and completely new. Among the game characters available sonic, Tails and Knuckles, each of which has its own unique abilities and features of the passage zones.

Platformer was timed to the 25th anniversary of the series Sonic the Hedgehog. The developers have set a goal-to recreate the original gameplay of the classic games in the series, while adding new features and improvements. The gaming press is mostly appreciated the Sonic Mania. Critics liked the fascinating game mechanics inherited from the first parts of the series, colorful design of zones and music.
