To download an eBook and add it to Adobe Digital Editions, do the following:

The Getting Started eBook is pre-installed with Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.11; however, it will not be installed if you install as a standard user (non-admin user).If it is not installed or if you happen to remove it, you can download it using the following link. Most major publishers use Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to proof-read their books. Download this free eReader to experience your books in the most optimum format across PC, MAC, tablets or mobile devices. Use it to download and purchase digital content, which can be read both online and offline.

Locate the link to download the eBook from the site where you are getting it. For this example, we are downloading an eBook from the Adobe Sample eBook Library. You can download from a different eBook store.

The book downloads and opens in Adobe Digital Editions.

If Adobe Digital Editions does not download and open the file automatically, locate the .acsm file for your book on your hard disk. To locate the .ascm file for your eBook, do one of the following:

• Internet Explorer (WIndows): C:.[user name]My DocumentsDownloads
• Firefox: Choose Firefox > Preferences (Mac OS) or Tools > Options (Windows). In the General tab, look in the Downloads area. Check the setting Save Files To to see the download location.
• Safari (Mac OS): Choose Safari > Preferences. In the General tab, check the setting Save Downloaded Files To.
• Google Chrome: Choose Customize and Control Google Chrome>Options. In the Under the Hood tab, look under the Downloads heading. Check the Download location setting.

Search your hard disk for the .ascm (eBook) file. For assistance with searching your hard disk, see the Help files for your operating system.

Double-click the .acsm file to finish downloading and opening the file in Adobe Digital Editions.

You can install Adobe Digital Editions 4.0 in Mac OS X by following the steps below:

Navigate to http://www.adobe.com/in/products/digital-editions.html


Click Download tab. Downloads page for Adobe Digital Editions appears.


Click Download Digital Edition 4.0 Macintosh (18.7 MB)

ADE_4.0_Installer.dmg file downloads to your computer.

Double-click ADE_4.0_Installer.dmg file from your computer, to start the installation process.

Select the destination for the drive where you want to install Adobe Digital Editions. Digital Editions only installs on the drive where Mac OS is installed. Once you have selected the destination, click Continue.

Mac OS X asks that you authorize the installation. Enter an administrator account name and password to authorize the installation.
